The Dawes Spire 1.0 Low Step is a versatile electric hybrid bike designed for commuting, leisure riding and everyday transport. Combining a comfortable low-step frame with reliable electric assistance and quality Shimano components, it offers an excellent balance of practicality, comfort and performance.
The lightweight 6061 aluminium low-step frame makes mounting and dismounting easy, while the upright riding position provides comfort and confidence for riders of all experience levels. Internal cable routing keeps the bike looking clean and modern while helping protect cables from the elements.
Power comes from a reliable Bafang 250W rear hub motor producing 32Nm of torque, delivering smooth pedal assistance up to the UK legal limit of 15.5mph (25km/h). The removable Samsung 360Wh battery provides up to 40 miles (64km) of range, making it ideal for commuting, shopping trips and weekend rides. The battery locks securely into the frame and can be removed for convenient charging indoors.
The Shimano Altus 8-speed drivetrain delivers smooth and dependable gear changes across a wide range of riding conditions, while Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes provide powerful stopping performance in all weather. The suspension fork with 70mm travel and hydraulic lockout helps absorb bumps and rough road surfaces while allowing riders to maximise efficiency on smoother routes.
Practical features include integrated front and rear LED lighting powered directly by the bike battery, puncture-protected Kenda tyres with reflective sidewalls, full-length mudguards, a rear pannier rack, adjustable kickstand and a comfortable Selle Royal Freeway saddle. Electric Bikes (EAPC)
Most electric bikes are classified as Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPCs) and are legal to use on UK roads if they:
- Have a maximum motor power of 250W
- Do not assist beyond 15.5 mph (25 km/h)
- Require pedalling for motor assistance
EAPCs can be ridden without a licence, tax, or insurance, and are treated the same as regular bicycles.
Electric Scooters
Privately owned e-scooters are currently not legal to use on public roads, pavements, or cycle lanes in the UK.
They may only be used:
