DESCRIPTION
Truth be told, the Dawes Spire 1.0 Crossbar is the kind of electric hybrid bike that gets ridden every day and barely thought about — and that's a genuine compliment. It's put together with the right components, in the right proportions, for riders who want a trustworthy pedal assist electric bike that earns its keep on the commute and doesn't give up when you head off the main road at the weekend.
The crossbar frame gives a direct, classic riding position that suits commuters who prefer a slightly more forward posture. Internal cable routing keeps things tidy and protected through the seasons, and the 6061 aluminium construction means the bike is responsive without being heavy. The integrated 360Wh Samsung-cell battery locks securely into the frame and is fully removable for convenient charging.
Up to 40 miles (64km) of real-world range from a 5-hour charge means many UK commuters can get through most of the working week on a single charge. Five assist modes and a walk-assist function give you genuine control over how much work your legs do, while the handlebar-mounted LCD display keeps speed, battery level and ride data clearly visible.
The Shimano Altus 1x8-speed drivetrain delivers smooth, accurate shifting across a useful gear range for both urban riding and moderate inclines. Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm front and 160mm rear rotors provide confident stopping power in all weather conditions, while the 70mm travel suspension fork with hydraulic lockout helps smooth rough roads and cycle paths without sacrificing efficiency on smoother surfaces.
Kenda K197 puncture-protected tyres with reflective sidewalls, front and rear LED lights, full mudguards, a pannier rack and kickstand all come fitted as standard. Ready for day one, whatever day one looks like for you.
